PANJIM: Taleigaokars – many with affiliations towards the Bharatiya Janata Party – and others blocked roads leading to the constituency protesting their pathetic state.
They also targeted the state government, specifically the PWD, of lethargy and callousness in getting the roads that were dug up for putting up sewerage lines repaired and tarred. The BJP had written to PWD Principal Chief Engineer D J S Borkar threatening to block the roads in case the roads leading into and out of Taleigao were not repaired before November 30. Stating that the PWD minister had promised, on the floor of the House during the monsoon session, that the hot mixing of the roads would start by November 15, the BJP has said that what has started are only cosmetic repairs. The BJP alleged that the roads, like the one from St Inez Branco junction to Caculo Mall to Syndicate Bank, Caranzalem, the bypass road from Madhuban Complex to the Taleigao community hall, TB Hospital, Shanakrwadi, Cardoz Waddo, from Ram Temple to Almaral Waddo, from Navelkar house to Green Rosary chapel and from Babal store to Quevnem – Justa hotel, and all internal roads were in a pathetic state.
