PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa has welcomed the by-polls stating they will boost the party’s tally in the Legislative Assembly.
“BJP was eagerly waiting for the by-elections as it will help the party increase its tally in the Assembly from 12 to 14,” BJP President Vinay Tendulkar said.
The party was expecting the by-poll dates earlier as the State will be celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi on August 25. “Nonetheless we are prepared to face the polls,” he said, confirming that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane will contest from Panjim and Valpoi respectively.
While their names have already been decided, the Parliamentary Board will soon make a formal announcement.
