PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa Unit ridiculed the ‘Naman Goemkara’ programme launched by Congress terming it a ‘publicity stunt’. The party also sought to know why the opposition was shying away from carrying out the drive in its constituencies.
“The Naman Goemkara program of the Congress is a clear publicity stunt to misguide the people,” BJP spokesperson Dattaprasad Naik said on Thursday.
Congress, last weekend, announced the programme meant to meet and understand the problems of the people and place them before the government. The party had said their leaders will communicate with the ‘people in a bus or a rickshaw, taxi, motorcycle, ferry boat or anywhere on the street’ to know the problems they are facing.
Taking a dig at the initiative claiming no Congress MLA was a part of the program in Salcete, the BJP leader called it a ‘tiatr’ directed by one of its spokespersons.
“Congress has lost its mental balance after BJP’s massive booth karyakarta sammelan addressed by BJP National president Amit Shah. This is BJP’s strength wherein every booth across Goa is represented and our karyakarta listen to people’s grievances and help them in need. Congress Chief on the other hand is surrounded by same people in North and South Goa. In Salcette they had only one MLA accompanying the yatra showing not all is well in the party,” Naik said adding, “Why no Naman Goemkara are held in constituencies having Congress MLAs. If Congress President is really serious they should go to the 16 constituencies having Congress MLAs.”
The BJP, notwithstanding the anti-government campaign, has decided to celebrate four years of BJP-led rule at the Centre on May 26. Party office-bearers, MLAs and MPs will meet on Friday to chalk out various plans to be held between May 26 and June 11.
