PANJIM: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) allayed rumours of instability in the government claiming ‘all is well’ with the alliance partners.
“Everything is fine with the current dispensation and our alliance partners are firmly behind Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. There are attempts to create confusion about the stability but we want to assert that the government is intact. Alliance partners have also given statements supporting the government,” BJP Goa General Secretary Sadanand Tanavade told reporters at a press conference on Saturday.
The party called a press conference to rubbish claims by a section of the media that alliance partners, including Goa Forward, wants to join hands with Congress to form a government after the by-polls.
Tanavade slammed the Congress for working out various techniques to destabilise the State government. “The alliance government is very stable and doing well. The Congress is scared that some of its MLAs are likely to join BJP. We condemn its act of creating confusion,” he said.
The party also backed Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, following a disqualification petition being filed by Congress before High Court of Bombay at Goa. “Congress took a decision on the disqualification petition to stall Rane from contesting the bypolls, two months after he resigned. This shows that Congress is scared because they know they will lose the two seats in Valpoi and Panjim. If they had to file disqualification petition, why did they wait for so long,” BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar said, terming the move as ‘political’.
“Congress is just ensuring that its MLAs remain with the party because they are worried some of them might ditch for BJP. The disqualification petition is nothing but a ‘political petition,’” Tanavade added.
