PANJIM: Panjim Police on Friday registered a non-cognizable offence against All India Congress Committee Secretary Girish Chodankar for making defamatory statements against Bharatiya Janata Party and its leaders.
Chodankar is charged under Sections 500 and 501 of Indian Penal Code. According to the complaint filed by BJP State unit President Vinay Tendulkar, Chodankar had said that BJP pumped Rs 1000 crore to come to power in Goa which was published in various newspapers.
The complaint states that the news reports which were published in newspapers and telecast through news channels and internet media have tarnished the image of the party.
Tendulkar, speaking to the media, said that Chodankar had stated on March 15 and 16 that BJP has spent Rs 1000 on horse trading post the counting of votes.
