NEW DELHI: The Bhartiya Janata Party on Saturday shrugged off Rahul Gandhi’s remarks immediately after his elevation as the Congress President, requesting him not to demean the basic nature of democracy in the country, shutting eyes to the nation’s progress under the Modi government.
While Prime Minister Modi taunted at a public meeting in Meghalaya that his succession to Sonia was no secret as the Congress is a family fiefdom, BJP spokesman Sambit Patra dismissed Rahul’s charge of BJP igniting fire and Congress dousing it, saying this is “not a decent way” to speak immediately after taking over a so-called grand party.
“Elections are won not because of riots on streets, not because ‘sadak pe aag laga ke.’ Elections are won because the mantra of reform, transform and perform works in the country under the able leadership of Narendra Modi. Elections are won by giving LPG cylinders to the last man standing in the queue, when electricity reaches every village,” Patra affirmed at a press conference here.
He expects no change in the working style of the Congress after Rahul’s takeover as the “corrupt ways” will remain the same.
It would remain corrupt despite the change of leadership, he said and cited the case of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda just sentenced to three years in jail for his involvement in the coal scam.scam.
“We all know that Madhu Koda was an Independent MLA, but he was able to form the government with the outside support of the Congress party. It was almost a Congress government run from 10 Janpath and 24 Akbar Road by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Ahmed Patel,” he said.
“Congress is not an ancient thought process as claimed by a few, rather Congress is a corrupt thought process and that has been proved by the judicial process today,” he added.
What an irony that despite the Congress not being in power for four years, corruption cases were still tumbling out and people jailed for corruption they did when it was in power, Patra said.
“This speaks volumes about the thought process, the working nature of Congress party. So a new president or an old president, the working style of Congress party, the corrupt ways of Congress party still remain the same,” he said.
