MAPUSA: North Goa District BJP Committee on Tuesday staged a protest against Goa Forward Party Working President Kiran Kandolkar criticising him for insulting Devi Shantadurga by comparing Mamata Banerjee to Devi.
Committee headed by Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo, Tivim MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar marched from the BJP office at Sim-Khorlim to Gandhi Circle shouting slogans against Kandokar. The protest was staged after a video went viral in which Kandolkar compared West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to Devi Shantadurga.
In the video, Kandolkar had said that Goa needs to bring the real “Durga” from West Bengal to Goa and after it went viral, sentiments of the Hindu community were hurt.
“Only an evil can compare Devi Shantadurga to Mamata Banerjee who watched as Bengali women were raped and murdered, she looked the other way when illegal immigrants ate away at the resources meant for legitimate Bharatiya Bengalis, she appeased Muslims for their votes, at the cost of Hindus, she had the audacity to ban Durga Puja and was forced to take a u-turn on the same by bold Bengali Hindus. Icing on the cake is the fact that she actively propagated political murders and brutality against political rivals and their families. She did not let even the ordinary people of Bengal live in peace since her intolerance to opposition knows no bounds. People of Goa and the BJP will never tolerate such malicious comments from anyone,” the protestors alleged.
