PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade was on Tuesday officially declared Rajya Sabha MP from Goa after being elected unopposed.
The formal letter to this effect was handed over to Tanavade by the Secretary (Legislature). He got elected to Goa’s lone Rajya Sabha seat unopposed as nobody filed nominations for the seat.
The tenure of current MP Vinay Tendulkar ends on July 28.
Tanavade had been BJP’s MLA from 2002 to 2007 elected from Tivim constituency. He was elected as party’s State president in January 2020.
Soon after declared elected, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant thanked the opposition parties for not fielding their candidate and for the first time getting Tanavade elected unopposed to the Upper House.
