PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party Goa unit on Friday accused Maharashtra’s Congress coalition government for substandard work on the Tillari Irrigation project and demanded that government should initiate CBI inquiry into the works.
BJP showed it was furious over the frequent breaches in the canal especially the last one reported earlier this month at Sateli-Avade in Dodamarg taluka of Maharashtra, that has left fields in parts of Goa and Maharasthra parched.
Addressing a press conference, BJP state president Vinay Tendulkar said that Goa government has paid Rs 900 crore to Maharashtra government for the project. “Being a joint initiative, it is our right to know why there have been frequent breaches to the canal,” he said.
Tendulkar said that party has asked government to initiate a CBI inquiry into Maharashtra government’s poor quality work. The irrigation project is a joint undertaking of Goa and Maharashtra governments to tap water on their borders. The Maharashtra government, in December, last year, has suddenly stopped supply water to Goa. The water was released after almost a month following protest by around 100 families inside the left bank main canal.
Meanwhile, BJP Friday appointed Suresh Kepekar as president of scheduled tribe morcha and Vishant Gaonkar as general secretary. Khushali Parwar is appointed president of schedule caste morcha while Siddesh Pednekar is its GS.
