Alleging that the Congress-led government has not bothered to fulfill many of the assurances given on the floor of the House during this monsoon session, the BJP has planned to take on the government by holding public meetings in the State.
The BJP State President Laxmikant Parsekar told a press conference on Friday here that one public meeting will be held in each of the eleven talukas to highlight the issues that were taken up in the Assembly session.
The Opposition party had corned the government on several issues such as price rise, police-drug dealers nexus, Asilo issue, illegal mining compelling the government to assure the House that it will take action.
However, the BJP State President today complaint that the ministers have not taken action pursuant to their assurances in the House, Moreover, they have become complacent believing that they will not be questioned until next session of the assembly.
The case in point, he said the assurance given by the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to shift OPD in new district hospital in Mapusa.
“We deferred our agitation since the chief minister had intervened and assured the House that OPD will be shifted from dilapidated Asilo Hospital to the new district hospital,” said Parsekar when reminded about their declaration they will not keep quite if new district hospital which has been ready since last two years, was not commissioned by August 15.
The Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had taken a stand that new hospital could not be commissioned in its present form and they will have to wait till a contractor is appointed to operate it on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
It was only after the chief minister’s intervention that he relented to open OPD. The BJP today claimed there are no indications that health minister wants to keep his word.
He said they would take appropriate action after Ganesh Festival next month if OPD is not shifted in the new hospital. When asked he also said they are opposed to handing over the hospital to a private party.
Meanwhile, the party will have public meetings beginning on August 21, wherein first meeting will be held in Vasco. Second meeting is scheduled to be held in Mormugao on August 22. Also meetings will be held in Pernem, Veling in Sanquelim, Canacona, Marcela, Bicholim, Shiroda, at Merces in St Cruz, Fatorda, and Quepem.
These meetings will be addressed by local leaders wherein local issues will be highlighted, he said.
