PANJIM: Stating that the Chief Minister should talk about rising crime incidents in the State, the Congress on Wednesday accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to spread communal hatred and create division in the society.
The Congress hit out at Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement that the Congress had insulted Sanatan Dharma.
“Congress believes in secularism. The Chief Minister made a statement, while addressing a public meeting in Madhya Pradesh, that Congress had insulted Sanatan Dharma. I condemn this statement. Goa is a peace loving State. We stay here with brotherhood. We have maintained religious harmony for several years,” Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar said.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Congress House, here, Patkar demanded to know whether the Chief Minister has been given an agenda by his High Command. It is the Congress due to which country got independence. Religion is not the issue of people. People’s issues are coal, health, inflation, women empowerment and safety of women, he said.
Patkar said that the Chief Minister should talk about rising crime incidents in the State. Alleging that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was trying to spread venom in the society, he said, “It is trying to spread communal hatred and create division in the society.”
“People need to think which direction our country is moving in? The Chief Minister talks about Hinduism but his government is trying to demolish a temple for expansion of highway at Bhoma village because of crony capitalism. I think BJP should think of itself and talk about other parties,” Patkar said.
In Madhya Pradesh on Monday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had said that rulers like Mughals and British couldn’t wipe out Sanatan Dharma from the country in the past. But Congress, a part of I.N.D.I.A. bloc is trying to insult Sanatan Dharma to garner votes. Hence people should question them.
