PANJIM: Kavita Kandolkar, wife of Goa Forward Party Working President Kiran Kandolkar, won the Colvale seat with a margin of 2,079 votes. During the lead up to the ZP elections in the Tivim Constituency, the BJP had made the Colvale seat a matter of prestige, with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant even campaigning for a BJP victory in Tivim.
Vijai Sardesai, Goa Forward Party President reacted to the victory of Kavita, and tweeted “Congratulations to all our Goa Forward Party workers and Kiran Kandolkar for your tremendous victory over @BJP4Goa in Tivim. Your hardwork and determination is showing the people the way Forward to #SaveGoaNow and we proudly support you in this journey. Kiran Kandolkar also expressed his gratitude “to all the workers of Goa Forward for their energy and determination to oust the BJP from the Colvale seat”.
Sardesai further commented on the overall Zilla Panchayat results saying that “this was a semi-final won by the incumbent as a consequence of ‘match fixing’ due to a weak opposition.
Earlier, Sardesai urged the Opposition parties and the public to unite and #SaveGoaNow as part of its campaign to “save Goa’s collective future.
The Goa Forward Chief also said, referencing the ZP elections that ‘winning the semi-finals doesn’t mean you are favourites for the final’.
Across social media, Goa Forward Party leaders are urging the public to join and unite together promoting the #SaveGoaNow campaign in an effort to strengthen the public and political Opposition to the BJP.
