BJP wants Ravi to apologise for comments

PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party has called for an unconditional apology from former chief minister and Congress leader Ravi Naik for his statements on Nigerians.

Stating that Naik’s statements were insulting and uncalled for, BJP spokesperson Kiran Kandolkar said Naik should immediately apologise.
“Why did Ravi Naik not ban Nigerians when he was the State Home minister?” asked Kandolkar. He said that Naik’s statement of calling them Negroes was also in bad taste. “When you are talking of people from another country you cannot make stray statements. We live in a democracy and need to solve this issue as per the law,” he said.
Kandolkar, however, agreed with the sentiments of Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar that Nigerians do create a mess wherever they stay.
“Goans don’t like Nigerians due to their rough behaviour. If you look at the incidents like in Porvorim or frequent arrests of Nigerians in drugs raid, they are creating a mess but still we need to show restraint,” he said.
