NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party is understood to have pulled up Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to fall in line and stop lobbying for the Chief Minister’s post since the party has already decided to project Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant as its CM face in the upcoming Assembly elections early next year.
Party sources said BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda gave indications during his recent Goa visit to go to the polls only under the leadership of Sawant, who had taken over as chief minister on March 19, 2019 after the demise of then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
They said the party has also admonished Rane, who had defected to the BJP after the last Assembly elections, to cooperate with the Chief Minister or face disciplinary action. He has been also warned to stop hobnobbing with the Congress to create trouble for the Chief Minister.
A two-term MLA from Sanquelim, Sawant has
impressed the party leadership for aptly handling every crisis in the State, sources said. His RSS background also worked in his favour to continue as the Chief Minister.
