BJP ZP member backs protesting taxi owners

PANJIM: In what can be construed as an embarrassment to the BJP-led government that has taken a tough stand against the protesting taxi owners, the party’s own ZP member Rupesh Naik from Reis Magos extended his support to the agitators.

Naik, who is the Reis Magos Zilla Panchayat member, was present at Azad Maidan where the protest is being held. This comes at a time when the government and BJP leaders have kept their distance from the strike and have refrained from meeting the taxi owners in person and have also criticised the protests.

It may be recalled that when the taxi owners had protested last time, the BJP MLAs had appealed to them to call of the strike.

Addressing media persons at the protest site, Naik said that the issues of the taxi owners need to be resolved. He also added that he has the confidence that the issues will be resolved eventually.

“There is no issue that cannot be resolved. Both (govt and protestors) should sit across the table, have the willingness to resolve the issues and sort it out. Personally, I understand the difficulties faced by the taxi owners and drivers. I have many close contacts and friends in places across my constituency and other areas, who are in this line,” he added.
