BJP’s Jina claims Avertano’s seat

MARGAO: Shaikh Jina, the new Haj Committee Chairman of Goa, has announced that he will contest the upcoming Assembly polls from Navelim.

He claimed that the youth and his well-wishers had asked him to contest the elections, citing a need for minority representation in the BJP.
Jina made his candidature public while announcing his win in the election of the Haj Committee chairman recently.
Mansoor Shaikh, a youth from Davorlim who spoke at the press conference, stated that when Jina won the election, many youth and his well-wishers gathered to thank him and extended support to him for his endeavours. He said, “We have expressed the need for a minority candidate to represent us in the Government for South Goa. Hence, we have suggested Shaikh Jina’s name as our popular choice.”
“Since there is a large minority population in Navelim constituency, I have decided to contest the election. Additionally, I have an advantage of being a Muslim minority leader who has married a Catholic woman and has maximum Hindu supporters and well-wishers,” said Jina. He clarified that this is the desire of his supporters and he would leave the decision to the BJP. He had prepared to contest the 2012 elections, but withdrew, paving the way for Avertano to win.
