PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday dissolved its Mahila Morcha Committee following allegations of anti-party activities during the recently held Assembly elections.
BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade said that the Mahila Morcha Committee has been dissolved and that a new committed will be reconstituted soon.
The State Mahila Morcha Committee was headed by former Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) councillor Dr Sheetal Naik.
The dissolution came days after Cabinet Minister Babush Monserrate had demanded action against those involved in anti-party activities during the elections.
Soon after the Assembly results were declared, Monserrate had alleged that the BJP Mahila Morcha President (Sheetal Naik) was seen sitting on a table put up by rival Congress candidate at Taleigao on the polling day and wanted to know what action the party leaders will take against her.
However, Dr Sheetal had strongly refuted the charges made by Monserrate and had said that she was told by party president not to interfere in Panjim and Taleigao constituencies and to campaign in eight Assembly segments of South Goa District.
She had also challenged Monserrate to prove that she had indulged in anti-party activities in Panjim and Taleigao constituencies.
