From time to time the Indian Meteorological Department and other institutions give out alerts from cyclones, tsunamis, heavy rainfall, etc and issue different warnings. But in Goa, with a political storm brewing with the Assembly elections in a few months, there is ‘Black Alert’ that needs to be issued.
The Black Alert is for the arrival of a political gang that will destroy administration and governance because of their brute fancies of power and authority. They will make the system work as per their whims and not as per procedures. This can blemish your state.
There is a probability of such a lobby coming together under one umbrella. They may be now in different parties. Come elections they will each contest their home seat and even one or two more with family members, under any banner. Then if their money and power games get them seats, they will team up to decide on government formation demanding ministerships, power and who knows, even the Chief Ministership, for the lust of power and not the motive of service.
This has to be botched. This is the power of the ballot. These interests may flow from various political parties.
The former first lady of the United States, Eleanor Roosevelt had once said: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” This power-hungry combination will destroy the beauty of those dreams.
The power-hungry combination has their own interests, not Goa’s interests
Many of them have got interests in the land business and act as brokers. It can be a deadly cocktail. They will take over beaches, Goa’s heritage and concertise Goa from the Goa of silver sands. But Goa has seen agitations against a faulty regional plan and anything against Goa’s interests. Goa cannot be hostage to these sorts of interests which can destroy the identity of Goa.
If this political lobby out to destroy Goa, takes charge, you will have only urban cities like Mapusa, Panjim, Vasco , Ponda, Margao etc. People of the past generations were surrounded by the richness of their land. Today that is going and, if the Black Alert forces take over, you will not only have concrete but the takeover will be so complete that you may not have access to
your very own property.
Power will flow only from them. Their people will bag all government contracts and tenders leaving nothing for the common Goans in the villages. They will control employment, and jobs and do nothing to make the economy self-sufficient and self-reliant.
Law & order can be another casualty.
You may see more desperate fathers running from pillar to post for justice for their dead daughters whose lifeless bodies have been washed up on the shore because law and order will only be of the powerful and by the powerful. In this environment, it is most likely that the underworld will have total freedom.
So, who are the Black Alert forces? They are a breed of politicians whose conscience has decomposed
They are from different parties. They have no loyalty to any party. They pretend to be sincere and kind. They attempt to influence voters in different ways. They offer to take care and entice with promises of paying electricity bills and school fees, wedding expenses and yes even expenses for dandiya dances. They make money for themselves and throw crumbs at people.
The money which they spend comes from the pocket of Goa, not from their own pocket. They buy you and then they loot you. Remember, anybody who gets rich due to ill-gotten wealth will never think good about the land they are supposed to serve.
They are the wolves in sheep’s clothing
These political lobbies portray they are holier than thou. They may even show Herald’s Insight to people and tell them that this is not about them but others. They are all wolves in sheep’s clothing. In fact, if you go to the market now you shall not find any sheep’s clothing which have all been bought by political wolves.
The state has a rich cultural fabric, pristine ecology, unique demography and peculiar history, all this can be tampered with if these kind of unscrupulous elements are allowed to run riot and the only way you can stop them is when the people chose the right option for the future. Because Goa belongs to the future generations.
Goa is a place of peace. If people shut their eyes, it can become a place of disaster. Goa runs in the blood of Goans. And if Goans decide to be its watchful custodians, nobody can destroy Goa. Only our apathy can destroy Goa which we cannot allow.
If you don’t stand up, the Black Alert forces will engulf you. Citizens should have a dream of building on the Goa which our ancestors have given to us. We owe it to them and to the future of our children.
