CANACONA: The blockade by regional transporters protesting against the entry tax on outstation vehicles entering the State failed to have any impact on the weekly bazaar at Chaudi-Canacona on Saturday.

It was business as usual at the weekly Saturday Bazaar at Chaudi, as supplies were brought in by traders and vendors from outside the State.

In fact, customers saw no noticeable change at the weekly bazaar as far as the availability of various commodities. Rates of various items, including vegetables, remained the same, unlike in other parts of the State where prices have begun to escalate due to a blockade by national transporters.

“Vehicles carrying milk from Karnataka arrived as usual and there is absolutely no dearth of any essential commodity in Canacona,” remarked Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Ajay Bhagat.

The weekly bazaar on Saturday had very fresh varieties of vegetables and people had a wide choice to choose from at the weekly bazaar.

Meanwhile, locally grown vegetables like ladyfinger and Canacona-mirsang (Canacona Chillies), besides a horde of other produce were the hot-selling items on Saturday.

Sources informed that transporters from outside the State offered their services as usual to bring in goods for the weekly bazaar at Chaudi, while a number of Karnataka-registered vehicles were seen stationed outside the KTC bus stand, awaiting to return to their home towns after the bazaar closed on Saturday night.
