BMC mulls enforcing lockdown in Bicholim

BICHOLIM: The Bicholim Municipal Council (BMC) is contemplating to enforce lockdown in Bicholim in view of rising COVID-19 cases in State and in Sattari taluka.

Bicholim Municipal Council  chairperson Rajaram Gaonkar chaired an emergency meeting of BMC on Saturday.

Gaonkar said the State has been hit hard in March due to lockdown although earlier only seven people were tested positive. However, now when the State is badly hit by corona, enforcement of lockdown is the need of the hour.

He called upon the people not to make unnecessary visits to the market and wear masks so that BMC is not compelled to enforce the lockdown.

He also called upon senior citizens against visiting the market and informed that they will meet Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant demanding a strict lockdown in the areas where COVID-19 cases are increasing.

It was also decided to maintain social distancing during weekly Wednesday market.

The meeting was also attended by Bicholim Municipal Council  Chief Officer Vivek Naik and councillors.
