Bodgeshwar zatra begins at Mapusa

MAPUSA: The famous Bodgeshwar zatra at Bodgini-Mapusa began with religious fervour on Wednesday. 

Lord Bodgeshwar is considered as the guardian of Mapusa and this zatra is observed on Paush Shukla Paksha Chaturdasi or on the fourteenth day as per the Hindu lunar calendar in Goa. 

A pooja was performed on Wednesday afternoon followed by mahaprasad.

The devotees visiting the temple and its surroundings have to compulsory wear face mask as per MHA guidelines. Two security guards have been deployed at the temple entrance to ensure devotees wear face mask, sanitise their hands and undergo temperature check.

Special arrangements have been made for the smooth flow of traffic and policemen have been deployed to ensure devotees’ safety.

The zatra is also famous for its fair where hundreds of stalls selling sweets, household items, fancy items, clothes etc. However in view of the prevailing pandemic, this year the fair has been restricted to only 75 stalls.

Meanwhile, this year too, the temple committee and Mapusa Municipal Council have decided to make the zatra plastic free.
