The body of Prakalp Gauns Dessai (23) who had jumped from Curchorem-Sanvordem Bridge in the wee hours of Thursday, was found in Zuari River near ACM Jetty. As per reports, the victim who was a resident of Xeldem, Quepem allegedly committed suicide. He was reported missing from his home since Wednesday evening.
On Thursday morning Curchorem Police along with Curchorem Fire Brigade and Coastal Police had undertaken an uptight search operation in search of Prakalp.
Sources revealed that Prakalp had informed his parents that he was going out for an outing and left his home on Wednesday evening. However, his brother received a message from Prakalp saying he was planning to end his life at 2 am on Thursday.
Worried about their son, the family immediately filed a complaint at Quepem Police Station. Upon realizing the depth of the situation, Quepem police immediately tracked Prakalp’s mobile location at Sanvordem. The police found the scooter driven by Prakalp on Sanvordem bridge and the mobile phone used by the youth in the scooter’s dicky. The police were unable to retrieve any information from the phone as all essential data had been erased.
Fire Brigade and Coastal Police reached the spot and began conducting their rescue operation in the Zuari River.
Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Desai, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, ZP Quepem Siddarth Gauns Dessai and a large number of people from Quepem and Curchorem rushed to the Sanvordem bridge. Phal Desai even accompanied the police on a boat to trace the missing youth.
