Bollywood actor fined Rs 800 for rash, negligent driving

Parties settle issue amicably

PANJIM: Bollywood actor Prateik Babbar, booked for rash & negligent driving on Wednesday, has been penalised for the traffic violation. Porvorim Police who initially registered an FIR against him taking cognisance of a complaint by a scooterist, on Thursday issued him a challan of Rs 800 for the violation.
“We have issued him a challan under the Motor Vehicles Act for rash & negligent driving,” Porvorim Police Inspector Paresh Naik told Herald.
Earlier, St Cruz resident Paulo Correa had filed a complaint against Babbar that his scooter was hit by a car with a Maharashtra registration driven by the actor. He had also accused Babbar of threatening and verbally abusing him and his cousin sister who was travelling with him on the two-wheeler. Correa had also accused Babbar of assault. Babbar subsequently filed a counter complaint against Correa alleging the latter had damaged the car.
However, a day later both the parties withdrew their complaints against each other after an amicable settlement. “They submitted affidavits that they wish to withdraw the complaint and counter complaint,” Naik said.
In the affidavit, Babbar said that he and Correa have amicably settled the matter. “Paulo Correa and myself have amicably settled the dispute and in view thereof we do not wish to prosecute or proceed with the said complaint or any other proceedings arising from the aforesaid accident,” states an extract from affidavit, copy of which is in possession of Herald.
The accident had occurred on the Panjim-Mapusa Highway when Babbar was driving the car accompanied by a female friend who is the owner of the four-wheeler.
