PANJIM: St Mathias Sports Club will organise its traditional Malar Bonderam on August 31, near Malar club square, Sao Matias, Divar, from 3.30 p.m. The chief guest for the evening will be Minister for Tourism Dilip Parulekar.
The name Bonderam originates from ‘Bandeira’ the Portuguese word for flag. During the Portuguese rule, there were frequent disputes between villagers on Divar Island over property issues. Thus, the Portuguese introduced a system of putting up flags to demarcate the boundaries. The island comes alive on the day of the Bonderam festival,
Goa’s top band Lynx, Carlos Gonsalves ‘Talking Drums,’ ace percussionist, DJ Ryan Nogar and DJ Kim will be in attendance.Altogether four wards ~ Belsur, Amboi, Goddar and Church Ward will participate in the float parade. An all-Goa fancy dress competition in juniors and seniors categories along with coconut breaking competition will also be a part of the festival.
The event will be compered by Angela Vaz, Karen Fernandes, Maxy Picardo and William Anes while Assis will provide the sound and lights.  The event is supported by Goa Tourism.
