MARGAO: The launch of Anup Ashok Sardesai’s book ‘Nathuram Godse: The Story of an Assassin’ went without a hitch at the Margao Cricket Club on Saturday evening.
The book launch was in the news after a political outfit threatened to hold demonstrations at the Ravindra Bhavan, which was the previous venue. After Ravindra Bhavan rejected permission to hold the function in government premises, the book was officially launched on the same day at the Margao Cricket Club. The book was released at the hands of Satyaki Savarkar, the grandnephew of Swatantryaveer Savarkar. Sanjay Vaishyampayan was also present for the function.
The launch was also caught in a political storm after people alleged that it was intentionally being held on the day of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination to glorify his assassins.
While speaking on the content of the book, Sardesai stated, “The book is my research on what happened to Nathuram Godse’s family and his dear ones after he assassinated Gandhiji. The book speaks of the aftermath of the incident.”
He continued, “Godse’s family faced lots of hardships and I strongly believe that Swatantryaveer Savarkar was framed in the case. This and other history of the aftermath the families faced has been hidden and that is what I want to show to the world.”
Sardesai also stressed on the fact that the history of India has been distorted by the leaders of the past, and the book is his attempt to bring out the true history, and not to glorify the assassination of Gandhi.
It may be recalled that Sardesai, bon Friday evening, received a mail from the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, rejecting permission to hold the book launch at its premises, after which he had said, ‘Goondagiri’ wins here over democracy”.
