Borda locals want construction of new bldgs for multipurpose school sped up

MARGAO: Citizens and elected representatives have urged the authorities concerned to expedite the ongoing construction work of the new multipurpose school building at Borda.

On Friday, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai along with the heads of the school institute, local councillors and residents visited the site and appealed to the authorities not to slow down the pace of the work due to the shortage of funds.

The first phase of the project consists of a new building for the multipurpose school, at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore.

“This project was started in 2018, wherein a new building for the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and Commerce College, besides the multipurpose school was proposed to be built in two phases. The work was held up due to court matters wherein one had filed a petition objecting to the project, and hence, nearly six months were wasted,” said Sardesai. “This being one of the oldest schools, the project has to be completed at the earliest.”

“All the students studying in ITI, which is one of the topmost ITIs in the country, will be accommodated in the new school building once completed, and the works of re-

building the ITI complex will commence,” added Sardesai.

He said that a football and cricket ground, besides a walking track will also be constructed as per the plans at the site.

A resident of Borda also told reporters that projects having educational importance need to be completed on war-footing.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Margao MLAs statement on the Sonsoddo issue, Sardesai said that Kamat’s panel was responsible for outsourcing the waste treatment to Comex, and that the Goa Waste Management Corporation was tasked with the bioremediation of the Sonsoddo legacy waste, when the panel backed by the Goa Forward Party was ruling the MMC.
