MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Councillor Camilo Barretto has demanded that the tents for labourers that have been put up at the Multipurpose Ground in Borda for a neighbouring construction site be removed as soon as possible. While addressing media persons on Saturday, Barretto questioned the delay on the part of the construction company in completing the work and falling behind on deadlines that were given to the councillor.
The local councillor demanded that all construction debris too should be removed from the ground. Pointing out that the tents for the labourers are even blocking a goal post, Barretto lamented that the ground is no longer being used by the public the way it was in the past due to these issues.
Given that there is a school connected to the ground, Barretto added that the staff and the students are affected as well.He even said that stray dogs are gathering at the ground in large numbers which has made persons visiting the ground afraid for their safety.
Barretto also called on the Fatorda Police to look into the issue of anti-social elements drinking at the ground at night and questioned why the streetlights are not working.
