PONDA: Potholes aplenty and uneven patches on the busy Borim Bridge is causing hardship to commuters, who have demanded immediate repair as the delay would lead to increase in size of potholes and craters causing further problem to vehicles especially bike riders.

The employees commuting daily from Ponda to Margao on the motorbikes face hardship in avoiding the potholes on the bridge.

The Borim Bridge is important as it connects North and South Goa and also traffic from neighbouring Belagaum and Karwar proceeds on this road. According to commuters the potholes are gradually increasing in size and number due to heavy transportation.

Besides, these potholes also lead to regular traffic congestion.

The locals demanded that only the road on bridge should be made of concrete pre-mix as hot-mix carpeting on the concrete base gets washed away during heavy rains resulting in worsening of the road condition.

It may be recalled that old carpet on Borim Bridge was removed and new hotmix carpeting was done in Oct 2021 however at some places potholes are developed even before rainy season.

Locals said the Borim bridge has completed its life span of 30 years and that Borim locals now don’t want repairs to Borim bridge but want a permanent solution with new bridge and bypass road.
