Borim local nabbed for kidnapping minor girl

PONDA: Ponda Police on Friday arrested a 40-year-old man from Kamlamal-Borim on charges of kidnapping a minor girl from Bethora-Ponda.

PONDA: Ponda Police on Friday arrested a 40-year-old man from Kamlamal-Borim on charges of kidnapping a minor girl from Bethora-Ponda.
According to Ponda Police, accused Abdul Latif was arrested from a place at Bethora and the girl was rescued.
The girl’s mother, who lodged a complaint in the wee hours of Friday, stated that her 16-year-old daughter had gone for tuition at Bethora on Thursday evening and did not returned home.
Police said on Friday afternoon, the accused called victim’s father on the cell phone to inform about his missing daughter. The father soon contacted Ponda Police and narrated the incident which led Ponda Police to search the area, from where the unknown caller claimed to have seen the missing girl.
Police further informed that the accused seeing police vehicle tried to flee, but was nabbed and police rescued the girl.
Police said the accused is not known to the victim and had picked up the girl from Dhavli on Thursday at about 8.30 pm. Police informed that the girl after her tuition went to Ponda bus stand and later proceeded on foot towards Margao. However after walking for about 4 kms, the tired girl was unable to walk any further and that is when the accused gave her a lift and took her to his house at Borim.
Police informed that the girl stayed along with the accused and his family on Thursday night and on Friday the accused took her on his two-wheeler. The accused in the afternoon made a call on the number given by the girl.
Police informed that a case of kidnapping was registered and the accused was booked under Goa Children Act. The accused and the victim girl have been sent for medical examination and further action will be taken.
