Borim Parish Celebrates Feast of St Francis Xavier with Solemn Mass and Community Message

The Feast of St Francis Xavier was celebrated with devotion and solemnity on Wednesday at St Francis Xavier Church, Borim. The Eucharistic service was led by Fr Gabriel Coutinho, Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Navelim, accompanied by several concelebrating priests.

Delivering the homily, Fr Coutinho reflected on the inspiring life and mission of St Francis Xavier, describing him as a tireless preacher who dedicated himself fully to Christ and to the service of humanity. He urged the faithful to discern God’s will in their lives instead of yielding to worldly pressures.

Addressing contemporary challenges, he spoke about the rising number of divorces, calling it a painful reality for families. He encouraged married couples to remain committed, nurturing their relationships with understanding and fidelity. He further appealed to the congregation to strengthen bonds with neighbours, relatives and friends, building a community rooted in love, care and compassion.

Fr Coutinho also recounted the missionary zeal of St Francis Xavier, whose passion for Christ led him across Asia and eventually to Goa, where he proclaimed the Gospel with unwavering dedication. He invited the faithful to emulate the saint by spreading peace, love and joy in their daily lives. “Anchor your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith never fails,” he reminded parishioners.

Concluding the celebration, Fr Victor Ferrao conveyed festive greetings to all attendees. For the benefit of devotees, primary relics of St Francis Xavier were placed for veneration, and children dressed as angels and St Francis Xavier added a joyful touch to the occasion.
