PONDA: For years Borim residents have been demanding relief from the traffic congestion, which caused several accidents in the village.
Vehicles from Belgaum and Karwar travel along the narrow NH which passes through the village often leading to congestion and accidents.
Borim panch Sunil Sawkar has demanded that the authorities find a solution to the problem faced by villagers. He suggested that a new Borim Bridge and bypass roads will solve the problem. For several years, the locals have been demanding a solution to the problem but in vain.
The Borim Bridge which connects North Goa and South Goa is overburdened as heavy traffic is diverted from Zuari Bridge. The locals have suggested that a new bridge in Borim be constructed.
The heavy vehicles from the neighbouring State pass through Borim village road which is one of the busiest routes. Sometimes drivers park vehicles by the roadside during lunch/dinner breaks which leads to traffic congestion.
The locals claimed that even a minor accident results in long serpentine queues making it difficult for villagers to cross over to the other side of road to proceed to their houses.
The villagers said the Borim Bridge has turned weak due to heavy traffic diversion and to decongest the village a new Bridge and bypass road is the need of the hour.
