CORTALIM: Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar was on Saturday remanded to three days police custody till July 22, after his bail application was rejected by a court.
According to police sources, Borkar’s lawyer argued that his client was a victim of political conspiracy and the deal was regarding some trees.
The public prosecutor in his argument produced the transcripts of the recording of the complainant and Borkar. After hearing the arguments the judge remanded Borkar to three days police custody and posted the matter for July 22.
Borkar was arrested on Friday evening by the Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths of the Vigilance Department of Goa Police after he had allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 75000 from one Monulal Halwai, a Vasco-based businessman to issue an Occupancy Certificate for his bungalow.
According to ACB DySP Bossuet D’Silva, Borkar was arrested at about 8 pm after he had allegedly accepted the bribe. “We have confiscated the money and a Ford EcoSport car (GA-06-E-0499) has been attached in this connection,” DySP D’Silva added. Meanwhile, the ACB has begun the process of evaluating Borkar’s assets and properties to establish disproportionate assets,
if any.
