VALPOI: A bovine entrusted to the Govansh Raksha Abhiyan (GRA) died at Valpoi, barely days after the High Court handed over custody of the remaining 113 cattle from Goa Meat Complex to the animal rights group.
Speaking to Herald, Jayashree Goshvardhan Kendra Valpoi President Hanuman Parab informed that 113 cattle were brought from Goa Meat Complex at Tisk-Usago to their Valpoi Kendra from June 14 to 19.
“Some five cattle were injured. One bull which was in critical condition died late Thursday night. Veterinary officer from Valpoi Dr Betkekar conducted the post-mortem on Friday morning,” informed Parab.
“The remaining four injured cattle are being treated by veterinary officers from Valpoi,” added Parab.
Parab further informed that before the cattle were brought to Valpoi, all the five injured cattle were treated by government doctors. “In all, we have over 230 cattle at Valpoi center and except for the four, all are in good health,” he said.
It may be recalled that the High Court on April 22 had ordered the temporary stoppage of slaughtering of animals at Goa Meat Complex, Usgao, following a petition by Govansh Raksha Abhiyan alleging irregularities.
The High Court then passed an interim order on April 30 allowing Goa Meat Complex to slaughter animals, but under certain conditions.
Sources informed that even after the ban was revoked, there has been no slaughtering at Goa Meat Complex for want of animals.
According to information, the court recently granted custody of the remaining 113 animals to Govansha Raksha Abhiyan.
