MAPUSA: Ryan Braganza was elected as the new chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council, on Wednesday.
At the election, Presiding officer Vivek Naik (chief officer of Bicholim Municipal Council) declared Ryan Braganza elected unopposed since he alone had filed the nomination for the post.
The office of Mapusa Municipal Chairperson fell vacant after Rohan Kavlekar had stepped down from the post on June 12 to give opportunity to other councillors as per their power sharing equation.
After the election, Braganza said, “Water logging in Mapusa market, traffic congestion and parking issues will be taken up on priority basis. Water logging problem in Mapusa market during the first rain was due to throwing of plastic openly that clogged the drains resulting in water logging. To solve the parking issue, the government has plans for multilevel parking but it will take almost 7 to 8 years to complete. However, as a temporary solution, new parking slots will be made for buses and vehicles.”
“After discussing with the Mapusa MLA and councillors, I assure to bring discipline in the working of the MMC and at the end of my term, the results will be visible,” Braganza added.
