Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar has withdrawn the summons issued to former Minister Prakash Velip, citing an amicable resolution to the matter. This development follows a breach of privilege notice initiated by Tawadkar against Velip, alleging accusations of ‘targeting’ Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude during a session.
The incident stemmed from Velip’s press conference in Panjim, where, as the president of the United Tribals Association Alliance (UTAA), he levied severe allegations against Tawadkar, claiming bias against Minister Gaude and referencing schools in Tawadkar’s constituency.
In response, during the Zero Hour in the Legislative Assembly, Tawadkar announced the summons, declaring that Velip would be summoned to apologize for his actions, which Tawadkar deemed as tarnishing the dignity of the Speaker’s office with baseless allegations.
However, on the last day of the session, Tawadkar withdrew the summons, stating that the matter had been unanimously resolved. He mentioned, “Persistent to the mention that was made in the house in consultation of the leader of the house Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, I have joined deliberated with Prakash Velip and resolved the matter unanimously.”
