Bribery complaint filed against Dhavalikar
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, FEB 21
A private bus operator on Monday alleged Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and Director Transport Arun Desai of collecting bribes to allow illegal transportation of iron ore in the State.
In a complaint filed at the Panjim Police Station, All Goa Private Bus Owners Association secretary Sudip Tamankar has also demanded arrest of Assistant Director (Transport) Pralhad Desai of being involved in illegal activities and bribing his superiors.
Referring to reports in a section of the media, Tamankar charged that Desai has been collecting ‘haftas’ for the last two-and-half years.
The complaint states that due to illegal transportation some have even lost their lives due to overloading of the trucks. It was therefore necessary to file FIR against Desai and the others, it mentioned.
The four-page complaint copy also stated that the Maharashtra police have caught several trucks at the border check-posts carrying liquors in large quantities but the illegalities are overlooked by the Goa RTO.
The news reports last week highlighted the alleged illegal transportation of ore from Kalane mines in Maharashtra to Sirsai in Bardez taluka. A photograph was also published showing a person near Dhargal RTO office collecting bribe allegedly on behalf of the RTO officials. Panjim police are yet to register a case.
