MARGAO: While the commissioning of the Assolna-Cavelossim bridge is expected to open doors for visitors from the hinterland villages to the picturesque Mobor beach, the narrow road access to the beach near Leela and opposite Old Anchor leaves much to be desired.
Successive governments have paid little or no attention to the beach access at these two points over the years. The three-meter wide road access, which is also used for vehicular parking, remains the same. In the absence of parking, visitors park vehicles on the narrow road, which also spills over to the main road.
Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva said he has mooted a plan to widen the beach access opposite Old Anchor. “The plan is to widen the existing access as well as create parking facilities. It is just at the nascent stage,” he added.
As far as the Leela beach access was concerned, Caitu said he would hot mix the road access only if the panchayat clears the alleged encroachments along the way. “I want the hot-mix machine to go right to the beach. Let the panchayat remove the encroachments along the way,” the MLA added.
