Canacona: Many Britishers who are stranded in Canacona since the lockdown was announced, are in a state of disarray as there is no repatriation plan in sight while the nationals of other countries are being flown out of India.
While buses have recently picked up German nationals stranded in Canacona, the British tourists here are fuming over the ‘too little too late’ action from the authorities of their country.
Sana Cutters, a British national, looking at the plight of the citizens of her country, has opened a Facebook group titled ‘Brits stranded in India’ and has in excess of 2,000 members till now.
Cutters has been trying her level best to reach out to the varying needs of the maximum number of Britishers stranded in India.
There was a post on the group of the repatriation plan by the British government to help hundreds of thousands of Britons stranded abroad due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the members are hitting back commenting it’s only on paper and nothing is moving actually.
As it was announced by the British government that they will have to pay for the flight back home, a disillusioned Britisher on the group vented her anger commenting ‘Disgusting, just get them home! They have already paid for their flights’.
A couple of Britishers however emphasized that they are being taken care of by their house owners in which they stay.
“Our needs are different from the needs of the locals, we need more than just rice and dal, and some need specialised medicines and food. More than that all of us need the company of our friends and family back home in this distressing period,” said a tourist staying in Patnem.
