PANJIM: A large number of residents of Panjim who went to Miramar beach for the Ganesh Visarjan have complained over the problems faced by them due to the broken promenade that starts at the entrance of Miramar beach.
According to the locals, during their Ganesh visarjan, which took place at night, many among them missed the holes in the planks of the walkway tripped as their feet was stuck in gap. Some even suffered minor injuries and cuts over the same. The locals questioned why these broken tiles were not replaced or levelled that those carrying the Idols had to be extra careful.
“During the night time and with all our festive spirit and celebrations as well as the others being around us, you expect to be stepping on a smooth surface or sand. Those who did not see these holes or are not regular visitors to the beach were the ones who got caught in it,” said Shaunit Amonkar, whose family had their visarjan on Tuesday night
The promenade incidentally is still under construction under the Panjim Smart City mission, which aims at uplifting the look of the famous beach.
Former Panjim Mayor and sitting local councillor Uday Madkaikar questioned what will be the fate of the project if it is already deteriorating before it is launched. The CCP councillor demanded that Smart City appoints a supervisor to check into these issues and quality of material used.
