Labourer found dead with throat slit, multiple injuries on body

A 30-year-old labourer from Jharkhand, but residing at Verna, was found murdered at an excavation site at an isolated plateau at Old Mardol, Verna, on Wednesday morning.
According to Verna Police, Rupesh Mitra’s throat was slit, while multiple stab injuries were found on his body.
The body was dragged nearly 100 mts away from the site, where he was stabbed. Besides, one alcohol bottle along with Mitra’s slippers were recovered from the site.
The incident came to light when labourers who were working at the excavation site noticed the body and immediately informed the police.
Incidentally, the murder site is barely half a kilometer from Verna Police station.
Few labourers, whose hutments are located close to the murder site, disclosed that they did not hear any noise on Tuesday night.
Speaking to media, PI Jivba Dalvi said the deceased has been brutally murdered and his throat has been slit and few stab injuries were found on his body.
“It appears that the accused after killing Mitra dragged his body and abandoned it at about 100 mtrs away at an excavation site in a mountainous area at Old Mardol, Verna,” said PI Dalvi.
He further said that they have interrogated the labourers who noticed the body and efforts are being made to find the antecedent of the deceased.
Dog squad and finger print experts were pressed into service to provide lead in the case.
Verna Police has registered a case of murder against unknown person and is investigating the case.
