Vasco Police on Wednesday arrested a youth from Khariwado on charges of raping a 11-year-old girl.
According to Vasco Police, accused Ashok Rathod (20) allegedly raped the Std 6 girl at his residence in Vasco on Sunday, when her family members had gone out of the house.
Police further said the accused, after committing the crime, had threatened to kill the girl if the incident was reported to her family members.
However, on Wednesday when the victim went to school, her class teacher reprimanded her for remaining absent for the last two days. The victim then spilled the beans and disclosed the incident to the teacher.
The teacher immediately informed her parents and asked them to lodge a police complaint. The panic-stricken parents sought help of Councilor Tara Kerkar and media to lodge a police complaint.
Vasco Police immediately swung into action and detained the accused, after the girl’s parents lodged the complaint.
PSI John Fernandes informed that the victim has been sent for a medical examination.
