Brutally assaulted Mapusa youth succumbs after a fortnight

30-year-old Ahmed Devadi was fatally attacked on May 30; police have arrested six persons

PANJIM: Thirty-year-old Ahmed Devadi, who was brutally assaulted by a gang on May 30, 2024, at Housing Board, Mapusa, has succumbed to injuries after battling for life for 15 days at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Meanwhile, the family members of Ahmed refused to take custody of his body from the GMC Hospital. They demanded that they will take the body home only after the main accused are arrested.

Ahmed Devadi, 30 and Sandesh Salkar, 28 were attacked with iron rods  by a gang late night on May 30 over some petty matter. Both sustained serious head injuries in the attack and were rushed to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

Police have arrested six persons in connection with the case. Those who arrested were identified as Manthan Raju Chari (24), Shridhar Shivaji Killedar (26), Abhishekh Ramesh Pujari (20), Sharanbasu alias Chempye Budhappa Gaikawad (27), Nagraj alisas Nagye Dasharath Pujari (19) and Boresh Satish Pujari (38).

Searches are underway to arrest remaining accused, North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal said.

Meanwhile, Mapusa Police have added murder charges under section 302 of IPC in the case.

After the incident took place, Mapusa DySP Sandesh Chodankar had said the assault was to take revenge of previous enmity.
