PANJIM: With ‘money factor’ playing an important role in elections, the Election Commission (EC) has asked central Border Security Force to keep strict vigil on state’s borders, to see that fake currency or unaccounted money is not brought into Goa.
Joint Chief Electoral Officer (JCEO) Narayan Navti, while addressing a press conference on Friday here, said they have intimated the border security to keep a tight vigil so that no unaccounted money flows into the State.
EC has also written to all the banks to submit details of the accounts where withdrawals have been more than Rs 50000. The banks have also been asked to immediately report to EC if there are any abnormal withdrawals.
JCEO also informed that they have asked explanation from three departments who allegedly violated election code of conduct while replying to a question on what progress had been made into investigations against the departments that continued with recruitment process against issuing of EC directive. He also said that the investigation is in early stage.
He said district collector’s report about the raid on the directorate of health services on Thursday will be forwarded to the chief secretary as well as central election commission.
The department was raided on Thursday morning following a complaint that it was allegedly processing jobs despite election code of conduct coming into force.
Eighteen Offers of Appointment as well as 18 Letters of Acceptance were seized in the raid. He also clarified that report received from the department earlier has no mention of how many letters were sent registered AD and number of letters that were hand delivered.
