Budget session of Goa Legislative Assembly begins today

PANJIM: The brief budget session of the Goa Legislative Assembly will begin from 11.30 am on Friday, February 2.

 Speaking to reporters, Secretary (Legislature) Namrata Ulman on Thursday said the session would be held for six days i.e. on February 2, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Earlier, the Assembly session was scheduled to end on February 9 but it got extended in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the State on Tuesday, February 6.

 The Assembly will start on February 2, with the Governor’s customary address being the first session of New Year. Bills assented by the Governor will be reported to the House while, Business Advisory Committee (BAC) report will be presented. Discussion on the motion of thanks to Governor’s address will be held for two days. The CM islikely to present the Budget for 2024-25 on February 8.

 In the financial business, the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will present the budget and Supplementary Demand and seek Vote on Account for the first four months of the next financial year. The government bills, including the Goa Appropriation Bill, will be presented during the session.  

Ulman said five Private Members resolutions have been admitted for discussion on Friday, February 9.

 There would be obituary and congratulatory references, calling attention notices and zero hour mentions.   

 The Legislature Secretary said that on February 2, a motion would be moved for the postponement of the sitting of the House from February 6 to 10.

Prohibitory order in Porvorim and Panjim for Assembly session

PANJIM: The North Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) for North Goa District has enforced a prohibitory order in the jurisdictions of Police Stations Porvorim and Panjim from February 2 until the conclusion of the session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly session.

The order explicitly prohibits any person or class of persons from convening or assembling, taking out processions, staging demonstrations on roads, streets, or thoroughfares, and holding public meetings in the specified areas. To ensure compliance, individuals or groups intending to organise such activities must obtain a license from the SP well in advance.

The order also imposes additional restrictions within a 500-meter radius around the Assembly Complex at Porvorim and the area under Panjim Police Station.
