In a tragic incident in Kolkata, many innocent lives were claimed. The five-storey building in the Garden Reach area has claimed a life of 10 and two more persons are missing. Another body of a mason from Murshidabad district was found unearthed was the latest recovery made on Tuesday evening. It was the ill fate of the workers who were working on this project. This unfortunate event has cast a shadow over the city, highlighting concerns regarding building safety and regulations.
Kolkata police have taken strict action against the following collapse. Police have arrested the landowner and charged him with sections of illegal structure. Soon after the building collapse news was surpassed the police initiated their action swiftly. Tuesday night the accused was arrested with a plan of producing him before the court on next day. This follows the earlier apprehension of the builder responsible for the construction, who is currently under 14 days of police custody after being presented before a city court. It is also alleged that the building that collapsed was being erected after filling a pond illegally
It was reported that the rescue operations are being difficult due to the congested nature of the area. The area is filled with narrow lanes, due to which the use of large equipment is not permitted in the area. Due to this congestion, many big equipment cannot be put to use which is making it more difficult to complete the rescue operation. Small tools are being used to navigate through the debris, and these teams have faced difficulties in their efforts to locate and rescue any survivors trapped underneath. The State Disaster Management Department, NDRF, Fire Department, and Kolkata Police’s Disaster Management Unit have been tirelessly working since early Tuesday morning.
