PANJIM: Panjim police arrested a Bulgarian national for installing a skimmer at an ATM of Punjab National Bank’s city branch. The arrest was made after laying a trap for the accused.
Miroslav Antonov Stanoev, 30, was arrested during the day-long operation with the help of bank officials.
As per a press release, a team of police led by PSI Arun Desai during routine checking of ATMs, as part of the anti-skimmer operation, found a suspicious object installed at PNB’s machine. The bank manager was informed and this was found to be a skimmer, which helps in withdrawing money from the accounts of gullible customers once they do the transaction.
The police after going through the CCTV footage of the room, where the ATM was installed, found that a man wearing a black colour T-shirt and shorts had installed the device.
PNB Bank manager Vinayak Mulgaonkar registered a complaint and police laid a trap to nab the person, who was apprehended when he visited the ATM.
During the initial interrogation, he confessed to installing another skimmer at TJSB Sahakari Bank on AB Road. That device was also attached by the police.
In a similar case, few mohts ago two Romanians were arrested by the Verna police for installing skimming device in Canara Bank ATM and withdrawing cash. The same Romanians also committed in similar offence in two places in Delhi, for which the Delhi police were on the lookout for them.
