VASCO: Burglars ransacked a bungalow and decamped with cash and gold worth Rs 2.02 lakh at Katem-Baina, Vasco, on Wednesday morning.
Vasco police received a call from Kennedy D’Souza stating that some persons had unlocked the main door and entered the bungalow at Minguel Residency, Katem-Baina, on Tuesday night and stolen cash of Rs 20,900, one gold chain, gold bracelet and a ring, all worth Rs 2,02,900.
Acting on the complaint, police rushed to the site and found the cupboard ransacked and containers that had the gold item thrown on the bed. The burglars also ransacked TV table drawers. Fingerprint experts and a police dog squad were also pressed into service.
Speaking to Herald, the fingerprint expert said they couldn’t lift any fingerprints, and they suspect that the burglars may have used plastic gloves, while the sniffer dog could not pick up any scent.
Kennedy D’Souza told Herald that the family members along with their relatives, who had come down from London on January 2, had gone to Valainkanni and they were supposed to return on January 8.
D’Souza went to the house at 9 am on Wednesday and found the back door of the balcony open. Despite efforts, he could not get in touch with the family members and he then contacted Vasco police and registered the complaint.
Asked if there were other valuables missing from the house, he said the relatives who had come down from London had kept their gold ornaments in the lockers. “There was foreign currency and it can be verified only when they return from Valankanni,” he added.
