MARGAO:  It was around 12.10 pm on Tuesday. Her husband had just gone out and this elderly woman was watching the TV when a stranger walked in her residence at Housing Board, Gogol.
She had no indication that the stranger, who was asking for her husband, would turn out a robber, as he shut the front door and demanded the cupboard keys. “The robber kept his leg on my throat while he kept demanding for the cupboard keys. To prevent me from raising an alarm, he tried to gag me with a pillow”, senior citizen Devi Janardhan told Herald this evening.
Devi had sustained knife injuries on her fingers as she resisted attempts by the robber to instil fear in her to get the cupboard keys.  “At one time, I thought to myself that I would soon die as the robber removed a knife and threatened me. At one stage, I wanted to give the keys, but he would not allow me to speak, fearing that I would raise an alarm”, she said.
After a struggle with the robber, the accused finally managed to relieve her of 13 gold bangles and a mangalsutra from her person. “I mustered courage and ran towards the rear door to call my neighbour, who heard my pleas”, she recalled, but added that before the neighbour could come inside, the robber made good his escape.
Janardhan suspected that the robber is the same person, who had come to the house some four days ago. A police dog was requisitioned by the police to help in the investigations. An abandoned leather shoe of the accused was found lying outside the house.
The police are investigating.
