At Aquem, gold ornaments and cash stolen

MARGAO: Burglars made merry in the commercial capital with the culprits successfully targeting two apartments in the city in the last 24 hours.
If burglars were successful in burgling the apartment of Sitabai Shirodkar located near the Hari Mandir locality on Sunday, unknown miscreants decamped with gold ornaments and cash from an apartment at Aquem-Alto in a daring daylight burglary on Monday morning.
In the Aquem-Alto case, the accused have lifted away gold ornaments and cash, all valued around Rs 3.50 lakh.
In his complaint, Krishnanath Poi Vernekar, a bank employee working at Canacona, stated that the unknown accused entered his flat at Kostub building, Aquem-Alto, when he and his wife Swati, a teacher, had left for work on Monday. “As usual, I headed to Canacona, followed by my wife, who left for the school this morning. When Swati came back at around 2.30 pm, she found the main door latch was found damaged. To her shock, she later found the flat was ransacked with the accused managing to open four cupboards. The accused have lifted away gold bangles, earrings, chains, besides three watches and cash of Rs 15,000,” he said in his complaint.
The dog squad which was requisitioned by the Margao police failed to give any clue to the men-in-uniform. However, the finger experts have managed to recover finger prints of the accused from the place.
Margao police have registered a case of robbery and PSI Melwin Colaco is investigating.
Meanwhile, unknown burglars broke into a fourth floor apartment of a building near the Hari Mandir locality, decamping with gold ornaments worth over Rs one lakh.
The incident came to light on Sunday evening when the owner Sitabai Shirodkar found the main door open. Her worst fears came true when she entered the flat, when she found the gold ornaments including a chain, bangles, earrings, besides cash of Rs 500 stolen from the house.
Margao police is investigating the case.
