MARGAO: Burglars continued to make merry in the commercial capital, even as the Margao police appear totally clueless in the spate of burglaries happening in the city.
Unknown burglars targeted a residential apartment in the busy locality of Aquem, near Costa grounds late last night. The burglars effected entry into the apartment of Priti Lobo last night and decamped with gold and cash, besides costumes worth around Rs 1.5 lakh. The incident occurred when the burglars gained entry into the apartment by breaking open the window grills. After gaining entry into the latched guest room, the miscreants removed the latch and made their presence in the study room and dining room.
They ransacked the guest room and the study room, but could not mange to lay their hands on the valuables, other than cash of Rs 800, besides one bangle and chain of the owner which was left on the dining table.
The incident took place when Lobo along with her two children and a maid were sleeping inside.
Three jeeps of Margao police led by Police station in-charge, PI Sudesh Naik, descended on the apartment in the wee hours of Wednesday, but failed to collect any clues leading to the whereabouts of the miscreants.
Sources said the burglars also targeted a neighbouring apartment, but could not lift away any valuables.
As the incident sent shock waves in the Aquem locality, residents have called patrolling of the residential areas which are close to the Margao Railway Station.
